Google is the gentle giant that has always been in the cutting edge of innovation. From
the day Google was founded back on September 4th, 1998 it was one of the firsts of its time. The
search engine has far exceeded expectation in being able to be a part of something more, to
include medical research, military aid, the purchase of YouTube, and even their own operating
system (Nieva, 2018). While not everything has been rainbows and butterflies for this powerful
company Google has always lead us in the right direction. Google for now seems to have a long
shelf life even while jumping though its hurdles. Google will continue to be on the cutting edge
on innovation and I am so excited to see what benefits they are able to contribute to our daily
lives.
It is vital that any business have key points and while Google started out as a search
engine, it became much more than that. While Google has not steered away from their roots,
online searching it sill the main service provided, with their mission statement going from “don’t
be evil” to currently being” Organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible
and useful (Thompson, 2018). Coming in second are Google’s productivity tools, Gmail and
Google Drive. Gmail is the popular email provided by Google while Google Drive is used for
file storage and synchronization. In third comes their internet products and services such as
publishing services, news, Google translate, and the ever-popular Google Maps among others.
Not to include the contracting Google does with the United States Department of Defense and
the American Cancer Association (Nieva, 2018). While Google’s success rate has rose from just
a simple search engine both the negatives and positives of this company have not gone unnoticed
to include our current president publicly attacking them.
Google purchased Android in 2005 on July 11th. Android was originally made as an
operating system for digital cameras however, upon the purchase Google spend years developing
the operating system to be compatible for mobile devices. The first public launch for the
operating system was in 2008 on the T-Mobile G1 phone, also known as the HTC Dream
(Callaham, 2018). Like any system there are its pros and cons, and this is no different with
Android. In competition with Apple’s iPhone, Android ranges from high end to inexpensive by
using multiple manufacturers versus the one iPhone Apple offers. Phones with the Android
operating system you have thousands of free applications that can be installed on your phone.
Android is also conveniently equipped with an app crash that allows the user to search an error
code online when an app crashes that assist the user in fixing the error, Apple currently has not
match to this function. Unlike Apple’s IOS operating system, Google’s Android is an open
system that allows its user to customize their device to truly make it their own. While Android
strives to give their users access to thousands of apps, the issues arise when third party apps are
created by cyber criminals making the overall phone more susceptible to viruses. All Android
devices come preinstalled with Google’s most popular services such as Gmail, Google Docs,
Hangouts, and Google Reader. Some of the complaints from it’s users include the lack of
Android phone accessories. Due to availably of so many different phones that offer the Android
operating system it makes it harder for the user to find accessories that match their particular
phone. Other issues include the limitation of apps as Android continues to update their operating
system (Chandos, 2016).
Although the beloved giant has clearly done some great work and has made some
wonderful accomplishment that affect mankind, it has not been without issues and controversies.
The Android operating system came with its own set of issues from small things to its lack of
accessories to being more susceptible to viruses, and lastly apps being limited by the updates in
the operating system. Google should encourage the manufacturers to make additional accessories

for each item, as it is important for their clients. Adapting the strict guidelines that Apple has
developed for app developers is something that Google must add into their busy agenda. Having
strict guidelines will reduce the risk of their devices contracting a virus, in addition there must be
some additional communication with app developers in order to keep the apps running
appropriately as Google continues to update their system. (Nieva, 2018).
With all the wonderful things Google has to offer, even if it has its own downfalls Google
still has its own internal issues. While Google fist started as a search engine and the company
continues to make millions from the daily traffic one thing that Google has yet to fix involves
Android. When it comes to the internet search competition with Bing, Yahoo, and MSN; Google
has it covered the issue lies within the mobile devices. Most mobile devices have come pre-built
with their own web app so most people don’t bother to use the Google’s web app Chrome. This
