The “Good Life”
Martin Luther King Jr. and Socrates lived throughout two completely different eras, yet I
still believe they possess similar ideas in regards to the “good life”. The “good life” can be
described as a way that one would like to live. Martin Luther King Jr. was an African American
who was not pleased with racism occurring in the United States. As Dr. King Jr. played his role
as a political activist, he lead the civil rights movement for a better life for the black community.
On the other hand, Socrates was an elderly, Greek, philosopher who lived in Greece during the
Peloponnesian War, a time when Sparta, Athens, and Thebes were fighting for dominance.
Socrates was a western influenced philosopher who pushed logic to change Athenian politics and
