Throughout history, there have been many different people who have gone against
society’s expectations of everything by trying to change a pre-established notion or belief.
Bringing many new facts into light, the article, “God, Government and Roger Williams’
Big Idea", reveals how freedom in American society came to be as it is today. It talks about
Roger Williams, a Puritan minister in the 1600s and the founder of the Colony of Rhode
Island and Providence Plantations who is one such individual that boldly dared to go
against the Church's long-established practice that politics and religion are one and the
same. After overcoming many trials and tribulations on his long journey, the devout
Christian successfully accomplished his goal of achieving religious freedom for the
community and establishing a separation between the church and state. Throughout his
fascinating life, Roger Williams’ was a very determined and inspirational individual who
always persevered to accomplish his goal despite the strong opposition against him and
though the question may arise as to how one man was able to make such a drastic change
for the improvement of society, it is obvious that his revolutionary idea inspired many and
with a strong belief in his cause, Roger Willaims was able to succeed in his journey
towards pushing for religious freedom and the separation of Church and state.
