Global Positioning System
My research of technological developments that have occurred in the past 18 years led
me to the GPS, or the global positioning system. The GPS has made it easier for people to
navigate. It was originally created by the Department of
Defense as a military application but has been active
since the early 1980s. In the 1990s civilians found it
useful and began to apply it to their everyday lives. It
can give the user turn by turn directions to their
point of interest. It also allows the user to
search for nearby amenities like
restaurants, theme parks, shopping,
restrooms, gas stations, hotels, etc. It can even predict the time the user will
arrive at their destination! We have this technology integrated into things we use in our
everyday lives such as our cell phones and our vehicles.
