Global Financial Crisis: The Ethical Issues
Paper Assignment
DUE: Monday April 9, 2017 at 11:59 pm
In this book the authors discuss the ethical issues of the global financial crisis. They state that
the topic has been neglected by philosophers and professional ethicists. The decisions and actions that
ultimately caused the crisis, the institutional and regulatory shortcomings that allowed it to happen, its
consequences for both developed and developing countries, and the responses that it has elicited raise
myriad moral and philosophical questions. This book touches on a sample of them.
“The reader will hopefully come away not only with a deeper understanding of the recent
financial crisis and some of the ethical and philosophical issues that it has raised, but also with insights
of more general interest and applicability.”
Your assignment is based upon selecting the one of the following three chapters: Chapter 3:
The Legitimacy of the Financial System and State Capitalism; Chapter 4: Neoliberalism – Is This the End,
and Chapter 5: Ethical Investing in an Age of Excesses. Based upon the chapter selected provide your
understanding of the major topic of each (Capitalism, Neoliberalism, and socially responsible investing)
and how this topic ties into the Global Financial Crisis. Research the topic. Provide your assessment of
the moral and ethical issues raised. Examine the issue, discuss the issue, and argue your stance.
Where do you think moral and ethical responsibility for the problem resides?
