MAW CHAPTER 4
1. In your experience, have you found that decision making groups tend toward groupthink? If
so, what factors contributed to this tendency? If not, what factors helped to prevent it?
In my opinion decision making groups do actually tend to group-think, because of not just the 7 reasons
that Mitchell and Eckstein include but because sometimes, these groups don't think of exploring
alternative solutions to the issues (that others have not tried yet) and problems they're addressing. I
don’t think that we have to trade in our old friends or colleagues for new ones just to reach new ways of
thinking. However, we can simply add new people with different backgrounds and perspectives than us
“the old ones” (meaning here: the same people always) to our group. Widening the decision-making
circle helps us not only meet other great people, but at the same time can help us learn and adopt ideas
that might be good for us and whatever project we are working hard for.
