What is the red queen hypothesis? The red queen hypothesis is used to describe two similar
ideas, both are based on coevolution. Coevolution could lead to situations for which the
probability of extinction is relatively constant over millions of years, evolutionary change by one
species could lead to extinction of other species and the probability of such change might be
reasonably independent of species age. Species had to run in order to stay in the same place.
The other idea is that coevolution between hosts and parasites could lead to sustained
oscillations in genotype frequencies. List at least 2 ways the human species would benefit from
having the ability to generate another human without the need for sex: no searching for
partner because in this step you don’t need any mate to reproduce an offspring. It only requires
one parent. Offspring only has the 100% the same chromosome as the parent, the offspring are
exact “clones” of the parent. Most unicellular organisms produce this way and it involves
mitosis. In asexual reproduction is guaranteed. Genes rarely mutate, good genes are preserved,
all the time is devoted to reproductive energy and creating offspring rather than finding a mate.
Sexual reproduction requires two parents that each share half of the genetic information.
