1. George Washington had doubts about attending the Constitutional Convention because he was
reluctant to take a leading role. He had already devoted eight years of his life ghting the war he
wasn’t looking forward to be named a leader. He didn’t want people to think that he was looking
for a new power role. Franklin was eager to have Washington present because he knew that
Washington was a great influence and he would make it successful.
2. Franklin did not have good health at the time. He had a three day illness that le’ him so weak he
wasn’t able to nish his letters. Franklin survived the heat better than the delegates younger
than him. He also kept his sense of humor and it was said that he had extensive knowledge on
every subject and his age did not affect his memory at all.
3. Franklin wanted the members of the new government serve without pay because he said that
two passions have influence on men and that was power and money. They said that money and
power together could cause violent effect. It was impractical because men must be paid for
their labors. A lot of these men weren’t well o* and able to afford to serve the country without
any compensation. The suggestion for daily prayer was also met with resistance because most of
the delegates were private about their religious beliefs and didn’t want to convey a sense of
desperation by asking for prayers.
