The U.S. and Canada
Foreign Policy is a central concern of the American government. The president
spends over half his time on these issues. Defense and security spending consumes out
23% of the budget, 60% of the discretionary part of the federal budget, and 47% for
American military expenditures. After WWII, the foreign policy represented a shift from
isolationism to internationalism. In Canada, the command of foreign affairs,
development, and trade is to arrange Canada’s relations. Also, to encourage the country’s
trade from around the world and lead to international development and charitable help.
Isolationism is the belief in the non involvement in the affairs of other countries,
especially staying aloof from armed conflict elsewhere worldwide. Internationalism is the
belief in the necessity of involvement in the affairs of other countries to protect the
nation’s political and economic security. During the cold war years, internationalism was
characterized by the doctrine of containment. Congress cannot direct policy, but it can
place restraints on the policy. Several domestic constituencies have developed a strong
interest in particular aspects of foreign and defense policy. Although their influence is
considerable, it’s difficult for them to overcome the determined will of the president.

Contemporary concerns, such as the war on terrorism and economics of
developing nations, defy solutions that can be reduced to simple formulas and every
choice a policymaker makes may of antagonizing an ally, a domestic constituency,
members of Congress, or part of the executive bureaucracy.
Keynesian Economics is the cause of most problems because of the incorrect use
of it. John Maynard Keynes was an economics major. Here is something found with
Keynesian Economics. Supply>,demand=surplus+unemployment, but if
demand>supply=inflation. Stagflation is unemployment and inflation combined.
Keynesian Economics works through deficit spending, low taxes, and high spending.
