There are many gender related messages that we get from the world around us.
What might be considered “acceptable” for boys might not be socially accepted by girls,
and vice versa. For example, I’ve seen it more and more accepted for girls to wear
traditionally masculine clothes but there is still a lot of stigma around men dressing in
traditionally feminine clothing such as dresses and skirts. As a girl I feel a certain
expectation to want certain things in life such as marriage and children and I feel like if
girls say they don’t want that people often do not believe them. I would be learning as a
child about gender through how my parents and peers behave and through what I see
on media such as movies and tv.
