In Chapter 14, it discusses the world and globalization and how it is gendered. This
means, that the different genders have different impacts and effects on our society,
through out time and the development of our world, there are multiple events and
evidence that can support this statement. When discussing World War II, the U.S.
soon after became the top competitor in the economic world; this is an example of
Globalization because during this period in time Europe and Japan were struggling.
The first great economic change came when Capitalism became part of our
government. With capitalism entering our government, the Industrialization period
began to take form and the men found access to labor and their way to making a
profit. Years later, in the 70s, a large percentage of women all around the world
joined in on the paid labor which included service work. Women from third world
countries now began to migrate to rich countries to work in the service fields
including being a nanny, maid, or even sex worker. After centuries, the revolution
began when men no longer held the position of being the breadwinner and women
stepped in to support the family. Countries that were left behind by these women
were later helped when the families began to receive money from their
hardworking loved ones. It is sad to think that the ideology to of poor women
migrating to the richer nations are viewed as them making a choice and them having
to deal with their own struggles. The governments of these poor countries do not
support their citizens and expect them to leave and bring back the small amounts of
money they make from tenuous work. This new imperialism truly affects the
children who are left behind or alone by either the death of the guardians or the
abandonment they go through due to the guardians finding a wealthy nation to
work for. The positions that these different genders hold form our economy and the
effect of society, We can see this today in the way women are fighting for the right of
equal pay in comparison to men. In my opinion gender equality will always be a
struggle and the gender globalization with always exist.
