1 – Abstract
Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment of individuals based on their gender. It
prevails and manifests in many dimensions of life including workplace. The influx of women
in the workplace has significantly changed the landscape of the economic world. Along
with the opportunities comes the challenges that a women might have to face at the
workplace. The main intent of this paper is to understand gender discrimination at
workplace, the different kinds of Gender Discrimination that takes place in USA. This paper
also talks about the laws that protect these discriminations and the EEOC society
specifically meant to deal with this topic. To understand it better, we have explained two
major case studies that would help in a better understanding of these discriminations
around the nation.
The first case study is about Google, which is mega IT company and the second case study
is about the massive Microsoft lawsuit filed by its female employees. Both the cases talk
about the difference in pay scale and compensation along with sexual harassment. Both
the case are still on going and hence no verdict has been made but by juxtapositioning
these cases, it has been more clear that gender discrimination still exist and by Equal
opportunity policy, Educate employees about Gender Discrimination and by taking strong
and disciplinary actions to address the complaints it can be reduced to noticable levels.

2 – Gender Discrimination in the Workplace
2.1– Introduction
Sexual orientation separation is treating an individual negatively in view of that individual’s
sex. It is recognized that victimization an individual as a result of sex personality, including
transgender status, or as a result of sexual introduction is infringing upon Title VII of the U.S.
Civil Rights Act of 1964. Particular highlights of culture propose that women face the most
impressive boundaries to expert and individual progression. Sexual orientation segregation,
in the feeling of unjustifiable treatment and unequal open doors for women in the working
environment, is wild. Despite the fact that it has been boisterously announced that there
must be sexual orientation uniformity for laborers, and regardless of the practically all
inclusive acknowledgment of sex equity as a major human right, women face
inconveniences considerably in the workforce, critical pay incongruities among people
persevere, and women are commonly isolated into low-status or peripheral types of work.
The basic method of reasoning for treating women laborers uniquely in contrast to men
specialists has been broadly held observation that women, being the more fragile sex,
require security for their wellbeing. This discernment has prompted the presentation of
protectionist enactment both globally and broadly for women and along these lines the
preeminent incongruity that the very enactment and business rehearses intended to
advance women’ interests have prompted the propagation of unjustified victimization
women in work. It isn’t simply women, yet even men progress toward becoming casualties
of sex separation. Men face dissatisfaction or sexual orientation separation while picking a
lifelong way, principally, with minding obligations, the big time, items promoting, and
exercises customarily polished by women. What’s more, frequently they are drastically
under-spoke to in the maternal youngster and wellbeing workforce. This makes difficulties
to men who want to look for a vocation in such work ways.
The sexual segregation exists in a wide range of sorts everywhere throughout the world.
Most regular sorts that we experience every day have been talked about beneath:
1. Discrimination in Education:
Women are on the receiving end of unfair treatment when it comes to admissions,
enrollment, financial aid, grading, housing, classroom treatment, guidance,
academic programs, vocational education and discipline.
2. Discrimination in Employment:

There is a sizeable problem that women everywhere face, in the workplace. Women
are denied the basic privileges of a workplace environment by discrimination in the
form of unequal pay, harassment by co-workers. Purely based on the gender, they
are robbed of deserving job opportunities, promotions and other advantages. The
employers and senior management usually assume that the female employees are
capable. The women are most of the times in minorities in the workplace and hence
are under more pressure to perform to feel like they deserve to be there.
3. Wage Discrimination:
The Institute for Women’s Policy Research demonstrates that irrespective of the level
of qualification, jobs are predominantly done by women pay less on average then
jobs predominantly done by men. There have been many situations in which men
and women perform the same type of work, and they probably have the same
education too, but still, employers don’t give equal pay for women. This difference is
merely because of gender inequality.
4. Maternity and Pregnancy Discrimination at Work:
On the off chance that a women is pregnant, male managers don’t prefer to talk
with them or interview them and will often direct them to a senior female manager.
Numerous females at their work environment hide their pregnancy in light of the
dread of getting terminated. At times, they are likewise downgraded.
2.2. Background
Sexual orientation segregation happens at whatever point any limitation, error is made to
treat individual dependent on their sex in the monetary, political, social, common or some
other field. Sex separation or sexism is an infringement of Title VII (Gender Discrimination,
n.d).
“Work environment” is another field where sexual orientation disparity is generally
unmistakable. This imbalance is the image of the fizzled political activities and ineffectual
arrangements. Sexual orientation segregation at working environment happens when
business or association treat representatives/candidates less positively or oppositely
dependent on their sex. This separation can be seen in various phases of business
beginning from procuring to terminating. Ladies were encountering lower pay than men as
well as treated contrastingly if there should arise an occurrence of advancement, getting
benefits or having troublesome working condition. Inappropriate behavior, Sex
stereotyping and Gender personality are some wonder identified with sexual orientation
separation which were uncovered in the relatively recent past (Sex Discrimination at work,
n.d). Expanding perceivability of sexual orientation segregation raised pressure just as

mindfulness in the general public which constrained the government officials to venture up
and pass laws to look after steadiness. Over the time, United States passed “The Equal Pay
Act”, “The Civil Rights Act of 1964″, “1991 Civil Rights Act”, ” Discrimination-Free Environment”
to address the sexual orientation segregation at the work environment (Lister, 2017).
2.3. Comparing Gender discrimination in different sectors across the world
Sexual orientation imbalance isn’t restricted at home, working environment or not even in
one mainland. We have neglected to acknowledge again and again, how women
cooperation in each field can upgrade the general public. This social issue is available
wherever around the globe from the most created nation to the least fortunate nation of
the world just in various degrees. Around the world, women have less access to training,
