Gays, People with Disabilities and the Elderly
Chapter 14 of the textbook talks about gay rights, the rights for people with disabilities
and the elderly. The parts that interested me the most was about the LGBTQ community. The
reason is because so many people who are gay or transgender have been judged because it’s
considered a sin. Many people believe that a man and a woman should marry each other. Not a
man and a man. Not a woman and a woman.
There have been many studies on both heterosexual men and women as well as
homosexual men and women to scientifically figure out what could cause a person to love
someone of the same sex. In the textbook it states that in the United States, ten percent of
American citizens are homosexual. Majority of that ten percent are males. I thought it was
interesting that the textbook really broke down the percentages of people who identified
themselves as homosexuals based on their age, gender and race. For example, 9.6 percent of men
between the ages of 18-29 identify as gay, transgender or bisexual.
