Gay Gene’s are a Struggle to Figure Out
Growing up with LGBTQ people in my family has always been a battle, because people
in the society are very judgemental between being christains, hateful, and just assume oh your
gay I have to hide myself when I am around you. That is very true because many people in
society have always struggled to understand why people are LGBTQ, because it’s more
complicated than you think. This topic is important to me because I can feel all the hate when I
am with my family members that are LGBTQ and I want the society to understand that it could
be a number of different things. This could it be genetics, their own choice, or even something
they grew up around and just figured that this was normal? This has been a topic that was viewed
back in 1993 because people wanted to argue that they made the choice to be LGBTQ, but that
isn’t always the case because we have 46 Chromosomes in our body 23 comes from you’re
mother and the other 23 come from the father, and one of those genes are genetic (O’Riordan).
Knowing that in the article “The life of the gay gene: from hypothetical genetic marker to social
reality” the gene Xq28 is a marker of genetics then why is it so hard for people to understand that
gay genetic genes are real (O’Riordan)? Sexual orientation is more complex than society thinks.
Absorbing all the information from various articles stating that there is and isn’t a genetic gene,
then there has got to be a middle ground.
Gay gene’s have always been a wonder to the American society today. Why? Know one
really knows but they both play the same role together, because it’s time to get the society to

understand why LGBTQ people are the way they are. LGBTQ people have always been looked
at differently because society doesn’t really know why they are the way they are. Society always
thinks “Oh well it’s their choice so let’s judge them.” Well that’s not always the case we indeed
do have 46 chromosomes and one of those chromosomes are genetic. According to Mrs.
O’Riordan a major in sex states that the gay gene has been identified sense 1993 and this gay
gene is Xq28 which is one of our chromosomes (O’Riordan). Although this chromosome doesn’t
show itself in some people it has an effect on others. Also, recently O’Riordan stated that this
one genetic gay gene was all over the 21st century database with the exact same pattern as it was
back in 1993 (O’Riordan). And if you look at the article by Jonathan Lambert a scientist, stated
that Ganna and his colleagues used an analysis to estimate up to 25% of sexual behavior being
genetics (Lambert). Twenty five percent may not seem like it’s a lot but it is. Little did anyone
