The four functions of business management are planning, organizing, directing and controlling.
Planning is the function that is in charge of defining the goals and establishing a global strategy
to reach them. Organizing is the way to design the structure necessary for the development of
the plan. It includes the determination of the tasks to be performed, who must perform them,
how the tasks are grouped, among others. Leadership is leadership and leadership. It is the
responsibility of the managers to coordinate and direct the activities of these persons.
The direction is to motivate and influence the subordinates to carry out efficient processes. Once
the goals are set, the structural plans are outlined and the staff is motivated, it is possible that
something goes wrong and this is where controlling oversees ensuring that things take their
proper process.
The managers are people in charge of the direction of a certain company or organization, or to a
sector of the same. Top managers are composed of a small number of individuals compared to
the two previous categories (middle managers and first line managers). Its primary objective is
the administration of the company or organization. The people who are grouped within the top
management institute certain policies related to the operations to be performed and establish
the directives related to the interaction of the company with its environment.
The middle managers manage the activities carried out by the managers of first line and, in
certain occasions the actions of the operational employees. Its main function is to direct those
behaviors directed to the accomplishment of own policies of a company.
In short, top managers are responsible for managing the company well and supervising all the
managers who are below them, while the middle managers are responsible for supervising the
actions and the management of the first line managers.
