Marianne Williamson once said: “Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we
learn.” Actually, my fear is rather an abstract one. I had this fear from my
experience of different kinds of people in this world. My biggest fear is that I will
become an obnoxious person.
Since I was born, I have been raised quite strictly by my parents and kept home all
the time. While others’ childhood was fulfilled by neighbor friends and many
playful nights, mine was surrounded by televisions, extra homework and computer
games. So whenever my friends tell me about their childhood, I feel a bit sorry for
myself for not having made friend with anyone at that time. Therefore, I always
tell myself that I will let my future children play with their peers and have the
sweetest childhood they can. But when I see my brother playing with his friends, I
unconsciously tell him to go home and study.
Am I being affected by my parents’ thoughts?
I have met many people who are self-centered and materialistic. They worship
money and are preoccupied with making as much money as they can. In their
mind, money is the most powerful thing in the world: everything can be converted
into money, and can also be exchanged by money. They are willing to trample on
others to get what they want. I have always regarded them as bad examples to
avoid. Nevertheless, as I get older, I gradually realize that money affects every
aspect of my life. I am afraid that I will become the type of people that I do not
like. Will I become dependent on money just like them and forget all the core
values of this wonderful life?
I have to admit that I cannot stand seeing anyone, not even a stranger, being hurt,
injured or bullied without helping them. People may say that I am nothing more
than a meddler but I feel happy with what I have done for other people. Some
