Freedom of Speech Assignment
When the Bill of Rights were created and implemented, they included rights that were said to be
unalienable, unable to be taken away. With this new pe!!on being created that pe!!ons to take away
those unalienable rights, freedom of speech and freedom of religion to list a few, the rights and
freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights could be taken away from Americans. In Osbourne and Osbourne’s
Public Speaking Vol. 9, it is stated that “the poli!cal system of the United States is built on faith in open
and robust public communica!on,” but this cannot be true is the rights of American’s can be taken away
with a simple pe!!on. There is some lack of communica!on there. I agree with the textbook in saying
that the poli!cal system is built on faith, but Americans cannot have faith in a government that will take
away their unalienable rights established for us in 1791.
In the Wisconsin case, I understand the rule against religion in schools, but the administra!on of
that school needs to ensure that if students are not allowed to express their beliefs, teachers and other
sta0 and students should not be able to express theirs either. For example, the ar!cle states that there
were Hindu statutes and images placed around the school, among a number of other things that would
be considered religious. The school should also not allow their teachers to teach beliefs that they are
passionate about to students, like in the case of the teacher teaching students Hindu beliefs, if they are
going to state that no prac!ce of religious beliefs can occur inside the school.
Freedom of speech in regards to educa!on should be upheld to a certain extent. . It is ridiculous
to think that a school ca punish a student for speaking their opinions in class when that is allowed
anywhere else. Of course threatening or dangerous speech should be excluded, but if the Cons!tu!on is
going to state that Americans have a freedom to say whatever they want, then it should be upheld.
The Rutherford Ins!tute works to protect the cons!tu!onal freedoms that is promised to every
American. They also work to protect the human rights of Americans. They are known as one of the
na!on’s leading advocated for civil liber!es and human rights. I de3nitely agree with what the
Rutherford Ins!tute is doing to protect Americans. Like the Rutherford Ins!tute, The American Center for
Law and Jus!ce‘s purpose is to engage legal, legisla!ve and cultural issues by implemen!ng an e0ec!ve
