The rate of employment for women over the last 20 years has fluctuated a small amount. In
1997 57% of people in the workplace were women and today 54% of people in the workplace are
women. There are still not nearly as many women in the workforce as men. 66% of people in the
workforce are men. During the time between 2007 and 2010 the number of people in the workforce
drastically declined. The number of women in the workforce went from 56% to 54%. The percentage of
men in the workforce went from 69% to 63%. Both men and women have not gone back up to where
they were before this time, but you can steadily see an increase. In today’s day and age, 78% of the
population works and back in 1997 80% of the population worked. The unemployment rate steadily
increased from 1997 to 2007 until there was a gigantic increase. This increase continued until June of
2009. After that the unemployment rate has been steadily decreasing ever since. Predictions can be
made that at the rate the United States is going, unemployment will continue to decline and the number
of women in the workforce will continue to increase.
