1. What do you see as being the biggest challenge facing the field of policing in the future?

There are several challenges that face the policing community into the future. Data statistics
show us how police have evolved throughout history, and anticipate some of the challenges to
our future. For generations, police departments have expresses responsibility for responding to
calls of service and criminal investigations, however, although this still maintains law
enforcement duty, departments have expanded their service to reduction of crime rates and
incorporating proactive policing models. Although not everything can be fully predicted,
predictive policing helps law enforcement understand some of those challenges they may
encounter into the future (Bossler & Thomas, 2012). One of the biggest challenges for the future
of law enforcement is cybercrimes.
While many law enforcement agencies operating under Federal and private sectors are already
implementing plans to reduce cybercrimes in a proactive manner, local police departments are
still faced with the challenges and questions in prevention and investigation of these types of
