Ford Motor Company Case Study
1
Introduction to Case and Major Objectives:
The main focus of this case study is Ford Motor Company and its strategies for
international growth. Ford Motor Company is one of the largest automotive companies globally.
Ford Motor Company has been innovating its business model since it was founded in 1903. The
company is the first company to develop assembly lines and conveyor belts in manufacturing. In
this case, ford is planning to create a Dynamic Shuttle pilot for markets in India. The company
chose India over other countries because its population and demand for public transport often
exceeded capacity. Below are the four objectives I will evaluate regarding the case:
I will discuss the strength of the competitive forces confronting Ford in the global market
for smart mobility.
I will also conduct a five forces analysis and identify the ford smart mobility business
model’s fundamental driving forces.
I will compose an exhibit that provides an overview of Ford’s strategy, a competitive
strength assessment, and a financial analysis.
I will give specific recommendations for a partner for the Indian market entry.
Analysis and Evaluation: Evaluation of the Case:
Ford can be a competitive force in the global market for smart mobility. The company
business model has been shifting from a cost leadership strategy to smart mobility, where the
company is planning to make its cars more technological instead of just finished products. To be
a leader in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, customer experience, and data and
analytics, the company is aggressively pursuing emerging opportunities through Ford Smart
Mobility. Under the One Ford Plan, which includes four elements, the company decided to

launch more products off fewer platforms. It revamped older vehicle families with technological
improvements designed to win over new buyers. The company made these changes to compete
with automobile companies and companies such as Uber, Lyft, and Ola.
For example, the Dynamic Shuttle concept is to develop an on-demand shuttle that could
be accessed via a user’s mobile phone and be dispatched directly to the requesting customer. The
shuttle pricing would be premium to mass transit in the market, but it is cost-saving for the
customers compared to a taxi service or a ride-hailing service such as Uber, Lyft, and Ola. The
Dynamic Shuttle would also offer greater flexibility in pickup and departure times than the
traditional bus service. These are examples of how Ford can be strong forces in the global market
for smart mobility. Using the five forces analysis can provide an understanding of the
competitiveness of Ford’s Dynamic Shuttle.
