Football. Stepping onto the wet newly cut grass just before a game, closing my
eyes visualizing all the fans screaming in anticipation for the next play, the star
quarterback passing me the winning play. Imagining that feeling gives me the
exhilaration to be thrilled for the next game. The dedication, love, support I receive while
being on the field makes my blood jump. But making the wrong play, I’ll be blasted by
my coach. Being able to come home from a long practice and speaking to my stepdad
about the new plays I learned makes me as happy as a little kid in a candy store. Having
people that care about what I do shows to me I have them supporting throughout my
journey. Waking up on some mornings an hour earlier to go to practice makes me
unmotivated but then I think “My mom will chase me with a bat if I don’t go to practice.
Getting perspective from NFL players and analyzing how their journey started
with the amount of dedication they put into their careers makes my chains run. You can’t
be on the team without practicing and you can’t practice without being on the team.
Dedication is both difficult and exciting. Waking up at 5:30 am, hour practices, 8-hour
school sessions, and then 2to-3-hour practices after makes me want to give up. Learning
new plays every day becomes difficult because sometime forgetting which one is which
confuses me then terrifies me to make the wrong play. But studying the plays after
practice at home on my bed for hours after hours is what helps me understand. If I study
the plays, I will perform better during the games. No matter what I will dedicate myself
for the sport I love. It drives me to be a better person giving me a passion towards
something exciting.
