Grocery Store Waste
Food waste is a huge problem, especially in grocery stores. Americans waste about 40%
of their food every year. In 2008, 43 billion pounds of perfectly good food were thrown out of
grocery stores. There are several factors that contributed to this colossal amount of waste.
Food waste has received increasing attention in recent years. As part of their corporate social
responsibility strategies, food supply chain actors have started to act towards avoiding and
reducing food waste. Giant is a store that aims to eliminate its food waste by 2020.
