My thoughts are practically the same as Jonah’s (the one from the article.) I did not feel the need to get
the flu shot because I rarely get sick to begin with and that in itself makes me feel like I am not obligated
to get it. I know a lot of people who has gotten the flu shot and became ill after they had it. The only
reason I am considering it is because it makes me a negative externality.
I am constantly surrounded by many older people and I do not want to be held accountable for anyone
getting sick if I ever do get the flu. I do work in the healthcare industry and am surrounded with germs
and contaminated items and should consider the positive outcome. It does not only protect myself from
the possibility of getting sick, but it will also decrease the chances of others getting it. I know there are
many negative factors if I do not get it, but in the end, it is my decision.
I do not think that enforcing the flu shot is necessary because it is a personal choice and one should not
be told what they should or should not get in regard to personal care. The cost of the flu shot can vary.
Some pharmacies give discounts or coupons, but the best place to get them personally would be at
Walgreens. They have a program called “Get a Shot. Give a Shot” that helps provide a lifesaving vaccine
to a child in a developing country as they work with the United Nations Foundation.
