Final Reflection Paper
What I have learned from this course is that being a supervisor carries a lot of responsibility. I
appreciate the wide variety of valuable areas and issues covered in Supervision Today class over
the past eight weeks. The combination has provided a wonderful overview of topics in which
Supervision definitions have given me a better understanding as well as the organizational
levels and the clarification because they each comprises specific common characteristics pg. 4.
The knowledge in order to be the most successful in the fast-paced field of management.
Firstly, I found the history of the four management functions to be very stimulating. The idea of
improving the work environment through coaching supervision is something rather new to me.
It was very interesting to know that diversity for supervisors is widespread; employees don’t set
aside their cultural values and lifestyle preferences when they come to work. Therefore the
supervisors must remake organizations to accommodate these different lifestyles, family needs,
and work styles pg.37. Personally, I am very interested in contributing to a climate which is the
most effective in using a human relations form of supervision. This approach builds relationships
among staff through support and communication. It allows supervisors to better meet the needs
of staff in order to retain them, and guide them to perform at a higher and more effective level of
job performance. I feel I now have a greater appreciation for helping employee’s meet their
needs with a goal of retaining staff. I have also acquired a deeper understanding in placing focus
on keeping up to date regarding employee evaluations since they provide important data a safety
net for administrators; it protects the people involved as well as the organization.

Although I understand the importance of being able to “lead”, I also realize that people really
want and expect this from an administrator.
I agree that higher employee achievement is a direct result of the learning environment where
supervisors are responsible for providing the most appropriate skills using the most thorough and
significant set of objectives and learner outcomes. As an effective supervisor, it would be my
responsibility to see that employees are engaged in job training and activities that are designed to
meet and every employee’s needs. This leadership also involves meeting both educational and
personal goals in a timely fashion through supportive and meaningful staff evaluations Therefore
the PERT chart diagram is something I want to employ; it depicts the sequence of activities
needed to complete a project and the time or cost associated with each activity page 71.
