Watch Your Language
Language is arguably one of the most important things in order to help a society grow.
Without language, the world wouldn’t be able to exchange thoughts and be able to build upon
them in response. Language is important to the point that any form of censorship can also harm
society’s growth. In The Giver, Lois Lowry shows examples of using words to conceal certain
meanings, how that affects the utopian society she has created, and opens the readers’ minds in
the importance of language through the exploration of semantics.
