In Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret
Atwood there are many struggles of characters being alienated by certain individuals and
groups. In Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, the students at Hailsham are predestined
to be organ donors. At Hailsham they are taught arts and educational curriculum, so when
they go out in the world they can live their life and go on becoming donors. Students at
Hailsham know and not know what their purpose in life is. They know they are clones
and are only alive to provide organs to the “originals” meaning they are organs machines.
In The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, females were alienated to become baby
machines and are deprive from being an individual. Kathy H. and Offred the protagonist
