Final Essay
The term state, refers to the various institutions that effect the employment relations at workplaces
by setting substantive rules, governing how rules are made, and resolve the conflicts between
employees and employers (Bray & Waring, 2018). It can be considered differently within different
frame of references, and for the employment relationship of my interviewee, I suppose that it is
determined by pluralist value, which considers the state as an important identity in resolving
conflicts among multiple parties.
However, the state does not always play the role of “reconciling competing interests” successfully,
especially when someone’s interests interfere with the ones of the state (Bray & Waring, 2018).
In addition to the failure of making agreements among parties and that of achieving a stable
employment relationship sometimes, the state also affects employment relations in may good
aspects. For example, it makes rules that gives employees the flexibility of arranging their work,
allowing employers to quit employees if they terminate their work without any rational reasons, and
offer grants and fellowships in educational areas to promote employees develop the further
innovations in learning and teaching in order to achieving higher performance.
There were strikes in many places in Australia in the past years, and many of them were initiated by
educators and teachers to against low wages and bad working conditions. For example, a strike in
South Australia in 2019 “forced the closure of 258 schools”, and many strikers expressed their
