Movie Review Unforgiven (1992): A Western with no Good Guys
The se/ng for Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven” is just prior to the turn of the century when the
Wild West was on the brink of civility. Hardened men who once slept under the stars are putting porches
on their newly built homes, even if they possess li8le, if any, skill as a carpenter. The violent, daring, and
dangerous gunslingers, train robbers, and hooligans are becoming part of the middle class as farmers,
railroaders, and men of the law.
The opening shot is of a house, a tree, and a man at a graveside. The sun is se/ng on this man,
and quite eloquently, the se/ng sun is a metaphor for the era he represents. Many of the :lm's outdoor
