The referential meaning of Neighbors is basically a frat house moving next to a young couple
who has a baby daughter. The couple struggles to have their old life as they have a baby now. In
the beginning, their new neighbors move in which they then learn are frat members. The house
then turns into a frat house. The two frat leaders are trying to join the frat hall of fame as their
time in college is ending. The two sides struggle to find a common ground and start to sabotage
each other in order to get what they want. In the end, of the film, the couple’s plan works and it
results in the couple getting their peace that they wanted. The explicit meaning of this film is
that adjusting to a new life. As the couple has trouble accepting their role of being parents, they
latter learn to live with it. The film captures the growth of the young couple adjusting. In
addition, the film captures the growth of the frat house members becoming more mature and
showing that their frat isn’t everything to them later. The implicit meaning behind this film is
that a common ground can be met. In addition, people who live different live can have similar
interests. An example is that both sides shared a feeling of adjustment. As the frat members
were preparing for life after college, the couples were preparing life with the baby. As most
couples have trouble adjusting for life with a child and being married, it pokes fun at the
general struggles. It even uses stereotypes of college kids and what they struggle with as well.
The film’s structure relies on a dialogue that demonstrates growth of every character in it. As
they growth, punchlines are made that people of the audience can relate to. As audience
members can relate to the jokes, they can understand what is being poked fun of. While it is
hinted very subtle, the film makes a case how everyone at one point prepares for a new life. As
in the end, one of the frat members works as a model and reveals to the couple how he takes
night classes and even asks them to hang out. This shows how they do not have resent against
on another and moved forward with a new page in their story. The couple shows to be adjusted
as they reject their friends offer of going to a music festival as they enjoy being parents.
