Fiesta: Texas Traditions… 125 years
Most people know San Antonio for the Spurs, but being from San Antonio I want to talk
to you about something that most people aren’t aware of. Hi, I’m Irina and I want to talk to you
about Fiesta. Fiesta is basically a 10 day long party in downtown San Antonio around mid-April.
Events in Fiesta include a carnival, music, cultural events, athletic events, and of course,
parades! This year will mark the 125th anniversary of Fiesta and according to the Battle of
Flowers Association, this year’s celebrations will “become the biggest and best in Battle of
Flowers history”.
Like I said earlier, this year is the 125th anniversary of Fiesta, but it wasn’t always as
extravagant as it is now. In 1891 Fiesta originated as a flower parade conceived by Ellen Maury
