The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) “defines a service animal as any
guide dog, signal dog, or other animal trained to provide assistance to an individual
with a disability […] regardless of whether the animals have been licensed or not by
a state of local government”. The ADA requires all privately owned businesses that
serve the public to permit service animals in their establishments without
segregating the animal and person as well as charging extra for the animal. Some
establishments may have a “no pets” policy; however, a service animal is not
considered a pet. The ADA takes priority over local and state laws regarding
disabilities so a service animal cannot be refused due to health regulations and state
laws. My employer needs to allow service animals, which are exclusively dogs, in the
