Hello classmates,
Each agency plays a critical role in their respective functional area of operation. The
Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense has the most impact
safeguarding our nation through means of security. The Department of Homeland Security is
comprised of twenty-two different federal departments and agencies, it was established post 9/11
in 2002 ("AllGov - Departments," n.d.). Some of the agencies that are part of the Department of
Homeland Security are United States Customs and Border Protection, United States Immigration
and Customs Enforcement (ICE), United States Coast guard (during peace time), The
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to name a few. The Department of Defense is the
largest and oldest government agency in the United States and the largest employer within the
Department of Homeland Security. The Department of Defense was first known as the War
Department established in 1789. “In 1949, an amendment to the National Security Act further
