Parents Cook-up a Bright Future with Kids
FORT WORTH, April 7, 2017 / – Parents may want to shoo children away from the kitchen
while cooking, but getting them involved at a young age offers plenty of advantages. There are a
variety of emotional and intellectual benefits for both parent and child, not to mention bonding
opportunity, so why not take advantage?
• Build basic skills. You can help your kids establish basic math skills simply by counting
eggs together or pouring out ingredients into measuring cups. A study at Elon University
showed that parents who informally teach their children about letters and numbers by
having them read a recipe, count cups of flour, or similar tasks before entering school,
will develop basic life earlier on in life.
• Help develop a mature palate. Kids can be very picky eaters, but seeing what goes into
their plate can help them open up to new tastes. Children will be more open to trying new
