BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Introduction
With the increasing globalization, the rapid spread of products across
national borders and cultures is visible, especially in the Philippines. Globalization,
together with technological advancement, greatly influences Filipino nowadays.
Filipino quickly adapt to the trend through the power of social media that also plays
as an essential tool in information dissemination.
There is a noticeable growth within imported products, especially from those
countries that greatly influence the Philippines, such as South Korea, Japan, and
America. This results in a greater demand for the product that those given
countries offered. Accordingly, Metro Manila and nearby cities genuinely are a
melting pot of influences from different cultures. People readily accept and receive
new trends and influences from across the globe. According to (Cruz 2014)
through the internet, the fans of Korean stars can search about their idol, to
socialize by joining social networking sites, and to buy hallyu products which
influenced by Korean culture. K-pop has nevertheless penetrated the Philippine
market and gained a significant amount of popularity. This is just one of the pieces
of evidence that explain how open and acceptable the Philippines are in terms of
different cultures shared by other nations.
