Hello! My name is Youssef Shaban. I am going to talk about “strategies for defining unknown words”.
There are a lot of people who are resorting to translate the words that they don’t know. Any way I will
explain some of strategies for how to handle unfamiliar words.
1- Definition/explanation
what this mean? This means that you can look for a definition or an explanation within the sentence to
connect the definition to the unknown words.
2- Example
what this mean? This means that you can provide examples of the unknown word can give readers
evidence to meaning.
3- The opposite
what this mean? This means that you can use the opposite meaning of unknown words to discover what
you need to know.
For me I prefer number (2) as we said “example”. It’s a comfortable way. You can read an example and
imagine what is happening. If you can’t understand the first example, you can read a lot of examples
about this unknown word.
