Subway:
When I first looked over subways menu my first impression was that it would be easy to
find a healthy meal option that fits into the USDA guidelines for a child of 4-8 years of
age. Upon further investigation, this was not as easy as I had thought. Subways basic
turkey, chicken, and roast beef sandwiches are not horrible, but all their sandwiches,
except for their veggie sandwich have a protein content close to or over the amount
suggested for an entire day. Another thing I noticed was that the amount of sodium in
many of their sandwiches seemed very high. I also found the nutrition information to be
somewhat confusing regarding what is included, some sections say all veggies and
others say select veggies but does not specify which veggies and some sandwich
values include certain cheeses but others do not. After looking over the nutrition
information my impression was that although it would be more difficult to find a meal
option that fit into the suggested daily values, I would be able to find a healthier choice
at Subway than many other fast food establishments.
