Pilot Whale Massacre
The government in Faroe Islands has not done enough to stop the massacre of Pilot
Whales. Pilot whaling is a tradition practiced by the residents of the Faroe Islands. The
consumption of Pilot whales is a danger to human health because research has shown that the
consumption of Pilot whales has negative effect on the human body. The government in these
islands has not taken the proper precaution keep their residents safe from the toxic whale meat
and blubber. Action against the Massacre and consumption of Pilot Whales should be stopped.
“In 1985 the Faroe Islands outlawed the use of spears and harpoons in the hunt, as it
considered these weapons to be unnecessarily cruel to animals.”(WIKIPEDIA) Pilot whaling is a
cruel tradition executed by the community of the Faroe Islands. Pilot whales migrate to the
Faroe Islands to breed and give birth. The community gathers with boats to entrap the Pilot
whales and drive them to the bay. The whales are driven so close to the bay that they end up
beaching themselves. When whales are beached the communities gather to murder the whales
with sharp hooks, knife and ropes. From 2010 to August 2012 the Faroese communities has
murdered 2,423 whales.

recommended that pilot whales no longer be considered 8t for human consumption because of
