In “Flanders fields,” John Mc Crae writes about how poppies blow in the
fields where the fallen soldiers are buried. Each fallen solider had lived,
experienced life, had loved ones, and was loved by people, and now was resting in
this field. The last sentence talks about how the fallen soldiers had unfinished
business. It’s telling the reader to finish off their unfinished business with the
enemy. It’s telling the reader to take the torch and finish the mission. It warns the
reader that if their wishes aren’t met, then the dead will not be at peace and won’t
be able to sleep.
