One of the main reasons that people tend to believe falsities is due to a common mental
phenomenon called motivated reasoning. According to the research done by Sharon Begley, a
writer for Newsweek, instead of searching for information that definitively proves or disproves a
certain belief people look for information that justifies what they already believe (Begley). This
practice is made easy with access to the internet where there are sources offering alleged proof to
