State of Mind. Sense of Self. Success
Yes, we’ve made it, successfully completing the required courses for secondary
education, thus, graduating and matriculating to college. If we are now ready for college, by
ready I mean we’re all in reality scared to death. The preconceived idea of an outcome is the
most powerful thing. We succeed when we say we will. We fail when we say we will. Why is
this so?
My peers and I see the numerous memes on social media about the hardships of college,
we hear from pour elders the struggles they battle through, the sleepless nights, terrifyingly
complicated assignments, vigorously lengthy and mind boggling as well as many other things;
most importantly we listen to our negative thoughts, we tell ourselves it will be too hard and that
we cannot succeed. We set ourselves up for failure with having the wrong mentality before even
the first day of class.
After telling ourselves we’re going to fail we stress over the cost of books and other
necessary school items. Then the long avoided but also highly anticipated day comes, the first
