Experience Analysis
I believe that our experiences in life shape us to be who we are today. Each experience is
unique, and has something valuable to teach us. Some experiences are unintentional, they just
happen, others take hours or months of planning to accomplish. I like to refer to those as
intentional experiences. Every day I have unintentional experiences with diverse populations, at
work, in school, or going to the store. However, it’s not frequent enough that I have intentional
experiences with people that are much different from myself. Last week, I made plans with a
friend of mine and our husbands to go feed some displaced people living in Salt Lake City. During
my service at The Rescue Mission of Salt Lake I was able to identify ways that my experience
affected myself, my relationship with the homeless, and my community.
