Expectancy Theory Reflection Analysis
Goal and SCAF Criteria
A goal of mine where motivation has been an issue is to become more active by working out at
least 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. By setting this performance goal I would be
able to progressively turn my excess weight into muscle and better make use of my energy
sources.
Specific (S)
This goal is specific to the point that I know exactly what I need to do to achieve it. I could
easily set the goal of “working out more” but there aren’t any specific criteria that I would be
able to use to hold myself accountable or be able to evaluate if I was successful in my goal.
Being specific and knowing how much I want to be working out a week and how much time I
want to devote helps me understand what I must do to achieve success.
Challenging (C)
For me this goal is challenging in the regard that currently I am not devoting any of my time
to physical activity. After doing the time log analysis it became very clear that I don’t make
any time during my week to work out or ensure my body is getting any physical activity. So, I
will be challenged to add a workout to my current school and work schedule. But, because
this goal is challenging for me, it makes me think of creative ways to achieve the goal, such as
