According to astronomers, our universe is a result of what is known as the Big Bang
theory. This theory not only explains how our universe started but how it has evolved into what it
is today. While many people assume that our universe started with a “big bang”, in reality it
evolved more like a balloon – expanding slowly into the large cosmos we have today. But how
do we know whether this theory is true? Scientists have been able to prove that the Big Bang
theory does in fact explain how the universe was created due to the movement outward of the
galaxies, the cosmic background radiation, and the hydrogen atoms that exist in the universe.
The first piece of evidence that supports the Big Bang theory is the outward movement of
the galaxies. In the beginning, everything was condensed down to a tiny point. The fast evolution
of this tiny point was a result of the Big Bang. Scientists were able to prove that the galaxies
were moving away from us in the same way in all direction by observing the type of light they
gave off. A blue shift meant that galaxies were moving towards us because it has shorter
wavelengths. On the other hand, a red shift meant that galaxies were moving away from us
because we observed light with longer wavelengths. With this information, scientists were able
to conclude that the galaxies were moving away from us because the light they emitted was red-
shifted. Since the big bang was an explosion of space and not objects into space, the expansion
of space-time also explains why the galaxies appear to be moving away from us. The expansion
of space-time caused the wavelengths of photons to stretch. This made them appear more red-
shifted. The explosion also explains why there was no center. After the big bang, the universe
began expanding outwards and the galaxies appeared to spread out evenly in all directions. The
galaxies moved away from each other creating a universe with no center. Although it seems we
are at the center of the universe, then this would have meant we did not move, which would
