1. How are the conflicts between Dee/Wangero and her sister and mother based in the economics
of class? How does Dee attempt to use class as leverage to get what she wants?
The education level between Dee, Maggie, and her mom is what separates them. There was
enough money raised for Dee to go to school in Augusta. Dee also has a very assertive
characteristic. Maggie has some education, but is not as ambitious as Dee. Their mother has not
had an education level beyond the second grade level. Dee also dresses up in bright clothing and
gold jewelry.
Dee attempts to use the college education that she got and her assertiveness in order to try to get
whatever it is she wants. Just like how she tries to get away with the quilts, but does not deserve
it as she was about abandon her heritage name. Instead of showing appreciation for the butter
