Through writing my eulogy, I revealed my good aspects and bad aspects of my life. I will
analyze myself to figure out what kind of person I am by using the religion tradition, the
secular tradition, the Philosopher’s Pie, the traditional and contemporary definitions of
good found in the Ethics at Work chapter.
The first point of the eulogy said that beginning from primary school to college, I always
worked very hard. This is because I was deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture.
“All of the world’s religions make prescriptions for moral behavior” (Pg 10). In the U.S,
almost all of the people have a belief of God; they follow the moral behavior said by Bible.
In contrast, most of Chinese people do not have a religious belief. The Chinese learn moral
behavior from traditional Chinese culture, for example, Confucius. When I was young, my
grandmother always told me stories about working hard. She also told me that working
hard is a moral behavior. To be a hard-working man has stayed in my mind at that time.
Another reason is the secular tradition. “Operating in a secular tradition, many people seek
answers to moral questions through personal experience and rational analysis” (Pg 12).
According to their self-experiences, most Chinese parents believe that if their children
want to be successful they must go to college. In this way, in order to enter a college, I try
to work hard every day and try to become a hard-working man.
Philosopher’s Pie helps me find out what are real, true and valuable to me. I believe that I
