The Pursuit of Happyness is a true story about a man who defies all odds against him to
become a stockbroker. He used the last of his money on his inventions, his wife left him with
their young son, and Gardener was trying to make ends meet. This movie takes us on a journey
of Gardeners life and his unpaid internship at Dean Witter. This movie reflected ethics in
marketing, ethics in manufacturing, ethics in human resources, and ethics in finance.
The ethics in marketing and ethics manufacturing came from the portable bone density
scanners that Chris Gardener had created. “Once the manufacturing department delivers a
finished product, it must be sold. The marketing process (which includes advertising, public
relations, and sales) is responsible for ensuring that the product reaches the hands of a satisfied
customer.” Gardener’s scanner gave a much denser picture than an x-ray would for twice the
money. It was vital for him to sell at least two scanners a month for rent and daycare. Losing or
