Ethics Assignment
In a 2001 audit of Yale’s Berkley Divinity School, Dean Ralph William Franklin was
exposed for using the school’s funds for his own personal expenses. Officials and the dean
himself had denied allegations, but in the audit obtained by the Associated Press, it shows that
nearly half of the budget had been funneled through a separate checking account. What really
came from the audits was a flag signaling the need for internal control. Similar to this, in the
realm of college funds “lost” is the case of Trevor Williams, a former student development
president who embezzled 264,000 dollars away from programs designed to help low-income
students. Through a number of fraudulent documents and checks being created and submitted by
a third party, Kimberly Harrison it was once again shown that the fraud could be prevented with
better measures of internal control. Williams was apprehended but Harrison remains at large.
