Professional ethics is the ethics whose main purpose is to clearly define and clarify the
professional work and its ongoing values. Sociologically, Professions are characterized by
the work they do and their service ideal. Professional ethics are professionally accepted
standards of personal and business behavior, values and guiding principles. Codes of
professional ethics are often established by professional organizations to help guide
members in performing their job functions according to sound and consistent ethical
principles.
My field of study is Computer science. And professionals in this field should follow
certain ethics in their profession. “Computer ethics” also has been used to refer to a kind of
professional ethics in which computer professionals apply codes of ethics and standards of
good practice within their profession. In addition, other more specific names, like “cyber
ethics” and “Internet ethics”, have been used to refer to aspects of computer ethics
associated with the Internet. Computing professionals who design and develop systems
must be alert to, and make others aware of, any potential damage to the local or global
environment. To minimize the possibility of indirectly harming others, computing
professionals must minimize malfunctions by following generally accepted standards for
system design and testing. If system features are misrepresented to users, coworkers, or
supervisors, the individual computing professional is responsible for any resulting injury.
