Ethical Theory
Ethical theory is concerned with the various philosophies that are used in
explaining or judging whether an action is just, wrong, good or bad. Ethical theory
presents precision and clarity of argument regarding morality. Ethical theory additionally
defines how humans should be valued according to their actions. An ethical theory
provides a platform for justifying actions with respect to the morality or immorality of the
actions. In this essay, I am going to create an ethical theory that can be used in justifying
various hypothetical situations. This theory can be used in demonstrating various
hypothetical situations and justifying the actions taken.
One ethical theory that I can come up with, is that actions done can be justified if
the outcome of the action results to a positive result, no matter the consequences. This
implies that any action done for the right purpose can always be justified, no matter what
the action is. This created ethical theory also implies that actions are evaluated in regards
to the impact of the action on the goodness of the outcome. This ethical theory proposes
that an action is ethically right if the outcome of the action has is for the overall good of
an individual or a group than any other alternative action. The aim of this theory in
therefore the most prominent outcome for the greatest number. The idea that one’s
happiness can be characterized distinctively by diverse individuals is problematic. For
instance, the joy that comes from a clear conscience exists on an alternate plane to that of
swindling money from others, thus what constitutes “good” in regards to this ethical
theory is a matter of choice. For this ethical theory to hold, each person should act in a
manner that guarantees the happiness of those influenced by the action even if it means it
will be at the expense of the individual’s happiness.
