Establishment of Modernism in Music
In literature, the writing modes of various times differ with changes in time and places.
The dynamism of literature provides the fundamental principles that strengthen literature and the
ability to pass judgment on different matters. Literature usually changes and adopts new styles
with time. Each of the century or period have had their forms of literature. The twenty-first-
century literature is the latest form of literature. It refers to the forms of world literature that have
been produced in the twenty-first century that is from 2001. The modern literature started taking
shape after the end of the Baroque period in the eighteenth century. It gave rise to the age of
Enlightenment in literature. The Age of Enlightenment is predominantly conserved in
neoclassicism literature, economics, music, and physics. The twentieth and twenty-first forms of
literature came later after the end of the age of Enlightenment. In this regard, this article seeks to
assess the utilization of modernism literature in the twenty-first century.
Modernism in literature refers to a worldwide movement in society that seeks a new
alignment with the experiences and values of modern life. It has a strong and intentional break
from tradition. The break can be found in rebellion against established social settings and views,
religious and political perceptions. The idea usually informs the breakout of freedom and
independence that comes by resisting the norms of the world. Modernism is also founded on a
belief that the world is formed through the perception of the populations. In this case, the world
is what people say or believe it is. In modernism, the aspect of truth is highly disputed. Most of

the modernist literature scholars believe that absolute truth does not exist, and all things are
relative (Hutchinson 102). The modernist approach in literature also holds that there is no
connection with history or institutions. Therefore, the experience that people feel is a depiction
of loss, despair, and alienation. Modernism also holds that life is unordered and hence
concentrates more on the subconscious aspects.
The rise of modernism has been engraved in the music and film sector. It marked an era
of change where the artists felt the urge to break from the past conventions in this sector. The
artist decides to start creating a new musical that reflects the mood of the modern age. Generally,
modernist music was created by necessity and ended up proving to be emotionally provocative.
